Architect Thom Mayne Addresses Graduates at NJIT's Commencement Ceremony at the Rock http://www.njit.edu/news/2008/2008-216.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2008/2008-216.phpMon, 19 May 2008 00:00:00 -0400 "You'll find that as you transition from the nurturing, intuitive world of academe into the outside world, it may not be easy to maintain your integrity,” Thom Mayne told more than 2,100 graduating students and their families at the 2008 commencement ceremony on May 17 at the Prudential Center in Newark. The 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, who is the founder and design principal of Morphosis, an interdisciplinary and collective architectural practice in Los Angeles, received an honorary doctor of humane letters. “Aim to keep your creativity alive and remember, no one else will ever be you,” Mayne said. NJIT also awarded honorary doctorates to Norman Li, PhD, president of NL Chemical Technology Inc. in Illinois, and longtime Newark historian Elizabeth Del Tufo.
