Doctoral Student Is Runner-Up in IEEE Poster Competition

Khondaker M. Salehin, a PhD candidate in the ECE Department at NJIT, was the runner-up in the Student Poster Competition of the IEEE Sarnoff Symposium 2010 in Princeton. Salehin presented a scheme to measure link capacity and available bandwidth for wired networks. This work was developed in the Networking Research Laboratory under the supervision of Roberto Rojas-Cessa, PhD, an associate professor in NJIT's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Katrina Hornstein, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, received the Presidential Leadership Award for undergraduate students today from NJIT Dean of Students Jack Gentul at the annual Highlander Student Achievement Awards ceremony. Jaskirat Sodhi, a PhD student in mechanical engineering, received the award in the graduate student category. The awards recognize outstanding student leaders, student staff, campus organizations and programs as well as department and college award recipients.

“Net Art/Digital Poetics” is the topic of a public presentation by Jason Nelson, an associate lecturer in Digital Writing and Cyberstudies in the School of Arts at Griffith University in Australia, on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. Nelson will introduce newly designed works and discuss a selection of inventive works he has previously produced, including the Poetry Cube. NJIT Professor Co-edits Book on Biological Data Mining

Jason T.L. Wang, professor of computer science, has coedited Data Mining in Bioinformatics (Springer, 2005), which details state-of-the-art techniques in biological data mining and data management. The book includes topics on preprocessing tasks such as data cleaning and data integration as applied to biological data.

Albert Dorman Honors College Alumni Pass on the Torch of Knowledge

A group of alumni from the Albert Dorman Honors College at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) visited the university to speak to students about the skills needed to succeed professionally. The 16 alumni, all of whom graduated from the Albert Dorman Honors College, met with students in round table discussions focused on careers, education and academic majors. The graduates also spoke about internships and research opportunities available at their companies.
