This new material is a derivative of isosorbide and may be able to replace bisphenol A (BPA) in a number of consumer products, including the lining of tin cans.

Iowa Corn Promotion Board, NJIT to License Breakthrough, Safe Bio-Plastic Alternative http://www.njit.edu/news/2008/2008-288.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2008/2008-288.phpWed, 06 Aug 2008 00:00:00 -0400 The Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB), NJIT and University of Sao Paulo today announced a joint agreement for licensing four pending patents on a safe, building block chemical derived from corn known as isosorbide to chemists. The agreement marks a step forward in developing applications and markets for corn-based chemistry.
