The researchers Timothy Chang, electrical and computer engineering professor at NJIT, and Peter Tolias, executive director, Institute of Genomic Medicine at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, will be honored Nov. 7 by the Research and Development Council of New Jersey for their patent to develop this new system.

$1 Million Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grant To Fund Joint Neuroscience Program http://www.njit.edu/news/2005/2005-440.php http://www.njit.edu/news/2005/2005-440.phpTue, 22 Nov 2005 00:00:00 -0500 A $1 million, three-year grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute awarded jointly to NJIT, Rutgers-Newark and UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School will be used to develop a novel doctoral program designed to train future neuroscientists who can integrate approaches used in mathematics, biomedical sciences and computation. “With their physical proximity and close ties among the faculty, these three institutions will create a unique environment unparalleled in interdisciplinary neuroscience training,” said Robert Miura, professor and acting chair of the department of mathematical sciences at NJIT.

In the fall, Stone, 21, will start medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She was accepted, on full scholarship, into the university's accelerated MD/PhD program. A biomedical engineering major, she won an Outstanding Academic Achievement Award from NJIT's biomedical engineering department.
