NJIT Assistant Director for Leadership and Diversity Speaks at Student Affairs Conference

Sherlene Ayala, assistant director for Leadership and Diversity, recently spoke at The Student Affairs Conference at NYU, a one-day professional development opportunity open to administrators, faculty, and graduate students to share ideas and expertise regarding a wide array of issues in higher education and student affairs.

NJIT Student Meets Former Secretary of State Kissinger at Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference

An essay by Satyaki Sen, a student majoring in electrical engineering at NJIT, was critiqued by former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger at the 47th Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference (NAFAC). Hosted by the United States Naval Academy, NAFAC brings together an outstanding group of undergraduates to debate major issues of American foreign policy. Sen participated as a Metro International delegate at the conference, at which Kissinger delivered the keynote speech. >>
NJIT”s Division of Career Development Services hosted an extensive, six-day and evening training seminar on campus earlier this month for the Wachovia Bank/NJ Department of Community Affairs Housing Scholars Program, a partnership between Wachovia Bank, the NJ Department of Community Affairs, and NJIT. Six of the 24 students selected this year were NJIT students. They created a redevelopment plan for a pre-selected neighborhood that included many of the components found in a formal redevelopment plan. Accompanied by NJIT staff as well as planning professionals, they studied the Lower Clinton Hill neighborhood of Newark and produced several maps using GIS technology. Following the training seminar each scholar will complete a 10-week paid internship at a New Jersey nonprofit community housing agency. >>
NJIT Interim Provost Appointed Student Affairs Council Chair for National College Association

Joel S. Bloom, interim provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at NJIT, was appointed chair of the Council on Student Affairs of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC). “We are very happy that Joel Bloom will be taking on the leadership of our Council on Student Affairs at this time of great challenges to higher education and to the students that our public universities serve,” said C. Peter Magrath, president of NASULGC.
