New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will receive $20 million in capital funding from the State of New Jersey to renovate classrooms and laboratory spaces. Chief among the building projects will be the creation of Makerspace at NJIT, a 9,500-square-foot facility that will heed the call for innovation, invention and production in today's burgeoning STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) economy.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has charged two men in the slaying of Joseph Micalizzi, an NJIT junior from Freehold who was shot in the course of a burglary early Monday at the Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) house at 317 MLK Blvd. Both men, an 18-year-old from Irvington and a 22-year-old from Newark, are in custody. >>
Law enforcement officials from the city of Newark, NJIT and Rutgers University – Newark are working closely together to bolster security in the University Heights neighborhood, including expanding joint policing operations, they announced May 4 in the wake of the shooting death of NJIT student Joseph Micalizzi. May 6, two men were arrested and charged with the slaying.

A Tradition of Giving: Typhoon Haiyan Relief Update and Noble November

NJIT's student organizations have rallied once again for their annual Noble November activities to raise awareness of those in need. Members of the Filipino Student Association, many of whom have families in the Philippines that have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan, have collected almost $1,000 for UNICEF.

Doors Open for NJIT's New $80M Student Housing Complex: 600 Beds Added

The doors are open to NJIT's new $80 million Warren Street Village, a unique, three-acre, 214,000-square-foot, mixed-use residential housing complex. Completed as forecast in less than 18 months, the complex, bounded by Colden Street to the east, Warren Street to the north and Raymond Boulevard to the southwest, will add 600 beds to NJIT's existing inventory of residential housing. In addition, the project will feature a new restaurant, convenience store and fitness center for the NJIT community.
