Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker was the guest master of ceremonies at NJIT’s Celebration 2007 at the Somerset Palace. Celebration is NJIT’s annual black-tie event. This year 300 supporters attended and raised almost $400,000 for endowed scholarship funds to benefit NJIT students. Since 1995, this gala evening of dinner and dancing has raised nearly $3 million. Celebration honors individuals for achievements of great benefit to New Jersey and the nation, and organizations that have been exceptional in their commitment to the university's mission.
Verizon Communications Inc. was named outstanding corporate partner last month at NJIT’s Celebration 2007 at the Somerset Palace. Dennis Bone, Verizon New Jersey President, accepted the honor on behalf of the company.

Comedian Joe Piscopo entertained guests at the affair held this past November at the Palace at Somerset Park.
Jeffrey Vanderbeek, whose name is synonymous with Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, and the New Jersey Devils hockey franchise, received the NJIT President’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement at Celebration 2007.
