College Presidents Unite to Strengthen Campus Security Statewide

Each year since 2005, colleges and universities across the United States have recognized September as National Campus Safety Awareness Month. Following the ninth anniversary of 9/11, higher education institutions continue to work collaboratively to improve the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and guests on their campuses by sharing information regarding policies and strategies to consistently maintain safe campuses throughout the State.

The Consortium for Pre-College Education in Greater Newark will present their Third Annual Health Fair on July 28, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Atrium at NJIT. NJIT has been selected to receive a College Access Challenge Grant (CACG) from the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education (CHE). The CHE funds pilot programs at New Jersey colleges and universities to assist families in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

NJIT today announced more than $5 M in innovative strategies to better prepare urban students to pursue 21st century engineering and science careers. Combining $4.5 M in National Science Foundation grants with NJIT’s own contribution, the university-wide initiative will enrich and strengthen high school curricula in science, mathematics and engineering in Newark and other urban districts including Perth Amboy, Union City and Orange. Jane Oates, executive director of the NJ Commission on Higher Education, was among those who spoke at the event. >>
