The bond between NJIT and Newark grows stronger every year. Since NJIT’s founding as Newark Technical School in 1881, NJIT has been a vital partner in education, economic growth and civic betterment in the city. 
NJIT junior Iulia Doci was selected as the 2007-08 national Division I Independent Player of the Year in women's tennis and she joined three other Highlanders on the all-Independent women's tennis team.

The NJIT baseball team recorded their first NCAA Division I win yesterday, defeating Long Island University 23-12 in day two of the Palm Beach Challenge in West Palm Beach, Fla. Three Highlanders finished the day hitting 4-for-5.
