NJIT doctoral student Maxx Capece was awarded one of three, $2,000 first place prizes in a competition sponsored by the Catalent Institute. His winning submission entitled, “Modified Release of Dry-Polymer Coated Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients,” provided a review of applications of dry-polymer control release drug delivery technologies on the particulate scale.

A TEDxNJIT event will take place again on April 4, 2013 in the Jim Wise Theatre on the New Jersey Institute of Technology campus and also via an accompanying live simulcast broadcast available to viewers worldwide. The independently organized event, licensed by TED, will focus on connections and will feature leaders in the various fields discussing mechanisms for developing connections to expand the human experience and the role of technology in creating and enhancing connectivity. It will bring together faculty and students to share their passion for innovation and new ideas.

Over the years, Bukiet has applied mathematical analysis to compute the number of regular season games each Major League Baseball team should win. Though his expertise is in mathematical modeling, his projections have compared well with those of so-called experts.

The Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology has approved $200 million in construction and infrastructure projects on the university’s Newark campus, designed to enhance and expand NJIT’s role as the state’s science and technology university and a leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research. The university will apply to the Secretary of Higher Education for $152 million from the Building Our Future Bond Act, state revolving funds and other sources to support the projects.

Xiaolu Wang, of Newark, a doctoral student at NJIT, was named the 2013 recipient of The Louis Berger International Scholar Award on Feb. 13, 2013. Wang will receive a stipend of approximately $19,500 to cover tuition and living costs. In 1997, The Louis Berger Group, Inc. established the Louis Berger International Scholar program at NJIT. To date, the program has provided scholarships to nine NJIT students. >>

The material, best known as AAC, has been heralded as the building material of the new millennium. Students in the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program at NJIT recently received certification in pervious concrete, a process that included a morning lecture on the knowledge needed for contractors to manage the material followed by an actual pouring of pervious concrete outside of the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center. Many other students were able to watch the pour as the future barbecue area and event space was being paved for the NJIT community. The program was sponsored by the PCA Northeast Cement Shippers Association.

"How to Engineer a Bridge" was the theme of their display, which featured designing a virtual bridge with software and then load testing it with an animated truck as well as a "Paper Bridge Challenge" where students created a bridge from one sheet of copy paper that had to support 100 pennies. >>
