NJIT Receives Challenge Grant To Fund Student Aid Program

NJIT has been awarded a $10,000 College Access Challenge Grant which will be matched by the university. The grant aims to increase outreach and opportunities for higher education access. The program assists needy New Jersey families at the start of the financial aid process, by among other things, most importantly helping them complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Manhattan-based trio is under the direction of pianist and artistic director Mimi Stern-Wolfe. Freeman Dyson Speaks at NJIT's Technology and Society Forum

As Freeman Dyson tells it, "If we are wise, science gives us opportunities to leave things better than the way we left it." To a packed ballroom of more than 500 faculty, staff, students and alumni, Dyson expanded on how the the proliferation of genetic engineering and biotechnology soon will circumvent the Darwinian principles that have governed evolution for three billion years. His lecture, "Life After Darwin: The Open Software of Gene Transfer," spoke to the social and economic consequences of this biotechnological upheaval and the resulting explosion of biodiversity. "Biotechnology will become domesticated--no longer seen as weird and alienated," he predicts. "With new tools come new questions and new responsibilities."

Entrepreneurs and small business people interested in tapping into government and university resources to obtain lucrative grants won’t want to miss two free workshops at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
The workshops, designed to help entrepreneurs in the life sciences and engineering sciences, will be offered Sept. 20, 2004. The morning panel, from 8:30 a.m. - noon, will focus on telling engineers what they need to get ahead. It will take place in Room 3730 of the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center (GITC) on the NJIT campus. The building is located at the intersection of Central Avenue and Lock Street.

To ease the anxiety of students confronting final exams, holiday pressure and the winter blahs, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has created an on- campus stress-free zone, where students can unwind with free massages, a play room, shopping, a myriad of games, a midnight breakfast as well as stress reduction and relaxation workshops. There will also be films and music and sports.
