Gale Tenen Spak, PhD, associate vice president of Continuing and Distance Education at NJIT, moderated a panel at the Association of Public Land-grant Universities' Joint Summer meeting of the Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness, and Economic Prosperity and Council on Engagement and Outreach at the Hyatt Regency in Austin, Texas. Spak moderated the session "Technology as a Tool for University Engagement and Outreach" on June 22, at which panelists discussed technology tools – from social networking to engagement web portals – that facilitate economic and community engagement. >>
NJIT To Offer Non-Credit Programs in Solar Panel Installation, iPhone and iPad Application Development and More

Beginning on May 24, NJIT's Division of Continuing Professional Education will offer four non-credit professional development programs in iPhone and iPad Application Development; Solar Panel Installation Training; Underground Storage Tank Regulation Review; and Open Source Unix Certification. All of these courses are open to the general public and will help NJ residents obtain new skills to seek and keep jobs. >>

Members of the northern New Jersey business, nonprofit and academic communities joined Jeanne C. Meister, founder of the New Learning Playbook blog, to discuss the training and development challenges that employers face in dealing with the new generation of workers on Dec. 11 at NJIT. Meister, an internationally recognized consultant in designing and implementing learning organizations for Fortune 1,000 firms, will be leading this project with Gale Tenen Spak, Associate Vice President, Continuing and Distance Education at NJIT. The group of human resources professionals was convened as part of the North Jersey Partners Life Long Learning Initiative with the goal of transitioning the northern New Jersey area into a continual learning region through training and workforce development.
