NJIT in the News

Two professors of mathematics at NJIT will number among the first Fellows named by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).  Gregory Kriegsmann, PhD, noted for his research in applied mathematics, asymptotic methods and more, will receive the honor.  So, too, will Robert M. Miura, PhD, who develops mathematical models in neuroscience.  The ceremony will take place this coming July in Denver.

NJIT expects a surprisingly strong turn-out for both students and companies at next week’s upcoming annual Career Development Services Spring Career Fair. Registered companies include Johnson & Johnson, Verizon, Telcordia, AT&T as well as federal agencies ranging from the FBI in Newark to the US Patent and Trademark Office in Washington DC.   

Architect Gregory Minott, a graduate of the New Jersey School of Architecture at NJIT, will share with two other architects a $10,000 prize for Best Design for Building in the Dudley Square Community Charrette and Design Competition.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host May 19-21, 2008, more than 200 leading experts for the fifth annual Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics Conference, an unusual three-day event featuring leading researchers who will discuss the latest news and research findings in their fields.

Gregory Kriegsmann, distinguished professor in the department of mathematical sciences at NJIT, will discuss "Propagation in Periodic Dielectric Media" on May 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Cullimore Lecture Hall 2.

Reiner Volkmer, PhD will discuss the integration of the optics and mechanics and the planning of the commissioning phase of GREGOR, a new 1.5-meter solar telescope currently being assembled in Tenerife, Spain, on Dec. 8, 3:30-4:30 pm, Guttenberg Information Technologies Center Rm. 1403. NJIT's Division of Career Development Services partnered with Gateway Northwest Maternal and Child Health Network recently to present the first Greater Newark Skill Building Summit for Health Leadership at NJIT. Gregory Mass, executive director, Division of Career Development Services, provided the welcoming address. The Summit convened 65 key public health stakeholders within Greater Newark dedicated to improving immunization rates and other health outcomes within their communities. The purpose of the Summit was to give participants the opportunity to learn new methods for improving their agency management skills. 

Gregory Olsen, an entrepreneur and scientist who in October 2005 became the third private citizen to make a paid trip into space, will meet with students from the Albert Dorman Honors College, the Educational Opportunity Program and faculty from NJIT on April 26. The talk will take place at 3 p.m. in Eberhardt Hall.
