Robert A. Herrera, a recent NJIT graduate, received a Presidential Leadership Award during NJIT’s recent convocation ceremony. The award recognizes students who have shown a deep commitment to NJIT.

The growing threat to the privacy of American citizens resulting from the government’s efforts to combat terrorism will be the focus of a talk at NJIT set for Sept. 17, 2008 from 3-4:30 p.m. at NJIT’s Campus Center. 

Six NJIT student-athletes were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars in the May 29, 2008 issue of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. They are: Angelica Sepulveda, civil engineering major, soccer (second team); Isha Toor, business major, tennis (first team); Robert Herrera, architecture major, soccer (first team); Kevin Blanco, business major, soccer (second team); Rodrigo Correa, business major, volleyball; and Leonardo Paludo, business major, volleyball. Diverse: Issues In Higher Education established the Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.

J. Max Bond, Jr., FAIA, internationally recognized architect, educator and partner at Davis Brody Bond, will discuss “The Architecture of the Civil Rights Movement” on March 6 at 6:30 p.m. at NJIT’s New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA), Weston Lecture Hall I. Bond won early recognition for the design of the Bolgatanga Library in Ghana, followed by projects including the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, and the National September 11th Memorial Museum. The event kicks off the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Student Design Competition.

Daniel J. Carroll, Jr., '65, president and CEO of Telcordia in Piscataway, NJ and a member of the NJIT Board of Overseers, was appointed to President Bush’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. The advisory committee provides recommendations to the executive branch regarding national security and emergency preparedness.

Charles R. Dees, Jr., vice president of University Advancement at NJIT, poses with a 44x18-inch replica cake of Eberhardt Hall at Celebration, NJIT’s annual black-tie benefit dinner, on Nov. 10 at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. This year’s event recognized the founding in 1881 of Newark Technical School, NJIT's earliest predecessor institution, and the 25th anniversary of the College of Science and Liberal Arts.
