In April 2012 U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski and leaders from New Jersey's education, business and technology communities announced a new initiative to spur high-tech innovation in New Jersey - the “New Jersey Apps Challenge,” a mobile apps competition among three New Jersey universities.
