Michael Jaffe, a research professor of biomedical engineering at NJIT, has received a patent for a chemical derived from sugar. This new material is a derivative of isosorbide and may be able to replace bisphenol A (BPA) in a number of consumer products, including the lining of tin cans. >>

The co-chairs of CI-ACT, their host universities—NJIT, Rutgers and UMDNJ—and NJEDge.Net are pleased to announce a two-day, hands-on workshop designed to introduce basic concepts and techniques to research faculty, graduate students and others involved in developing or running software packages targeted to run in parallel, high performance computing (HPC) environments. The Workshop on High Performance Computing  for Research will be held on Jan 12-13, 2010 in GITC 2400 at NJIT.  Registration will be limited to 30 participants and is required to attend the workshop. NJIT sustainability expert Deane Evans will provide an introduction to the basics of building green, high performance primary and secondary schools at a free seminar, open to the public, at NJIT. The talk, set for Nov. 19, 2008, at 3 p.m. in Kupfrian Hall Rm. 117, will include a review of the status of the NJ schools' construction program. >>

The Advanced Mixed Chorus from Newark's Arts High School and jazz singer Yvette Glover will perform at NJIT on Feb. 1, 2006 at 4 p.m. as part of the university's celebration of Black History Month.The concert, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the NJIT Technology and Society Forum Series and the Educational Opportunity Program at NJIT. >>

The second edition of the High-Performance School Buildings Resource and Strategy Guide by architect Deane Evans, director of the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research at NJIT, has been released by the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council. The guide describes the characteristics and benefits of high-performance school buildings and details ways that school planners can obtain the best design within their budgets. >>
