The newly-established Academy of Geo-Professionals, established by the American Society of Civil Engineers, will induct NJIT professor of civil engineering Priscilla Nelson, PhD, the former provost, into its inaugural class on March 18, 2009. 

Priscilla P. Nelson, PhD, has announced that she will resign her position as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at New Jersey Institute of Technology, effective November 28, 2008, to pursue the university’s special projects related to international program development.

Alice E. White, vice president, Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs North America, will be the keynote speaker at NJIT’s annual University Convocation on Sept. 3, 2008, 3 p.m. at NJIT. A reception follows.

NJIT will mark, once again, the new school year with University Convocation, an annual celebration and awards ceremony recognizing students, faculty and staff accomplishments. 

U.S. News & World Report’s 2009 Annual Guide to America’s Best Colleges has named NJIT among the nation’s top tier of national research universities offering a range of undergraduate majors and master's and doctoral degrees. It also named NJIT as the nation’s eighth most ethnically diverse institution of higher education.

NJIT Provost Priscilla P. Nelson, of West Orange, received the Kenneth R. Row Award from the American Association of Engineering Sciences on May 5 for promoting unity among engineering societies. She accomplished this goal through her current work at NJIT coupled with earlier leadership positions at the National Science Foundation (NSF).

A better understanding of brain injury, a way to rejuvenate dead nerve endings and a device allowing patients to monitor their glaucoma at home, number among this year’s nine winners at NJIT’s annual provost’s student research day.

NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson, of West Orange, will be honored tonight in Washington, DC, by the American Association of Engineering Societies for promoting unity among the engineering societies.  The organization said she accomplished this goal through her leadership positions at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NJIT.  She will receive the Kenneth Andrew Roe Award in recognition of this work at a banquet.

NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson, of West Orange, will be honored at the Executive Women of New Jersey's 2008 "Salute to the Policy Makers" awards dinner on May 15 at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick. The event recognizes New Jersey women directors and officers of major corporations as well as women leaders of comparable achievement in the public sector. 

Associate Provost for Undergraduate Programs Dana Knox and Provost Priscilla Nelson served up hamburgers to students on the Campus Green this afternoon. The Provost's Barbecue is a highlight of Spring Week 2008 activities at NJIT.

NJIT’s progress toward becoming a greener campus was the topic of discussion at the Green Academics meeting this week. Formed in November 2007, a planning team comprised of faculty, administrators and students is working toward achieving the university's sustainability objectives, including the development of criteria for green courses.

A weekend conference drawing East Coast female engineers and students headlines the upcoming month-long events set for Women’s History Month at NJIT. The month kicks off this weekend, March 2-4, as more than 200 female engineering students and professionals from 68 engineering schools descend on the NJIT campus for the Eastern regional conference of the Society of Women Engineers. NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson, PhD, will drive home this year’s theme—Diversity in Engineering—when she speaks at 8 a.m. on March 3.

Priscilla P. Nelson, PhD, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at NJIT, was named chair-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Section on Engineering. Dr. Nelson was elected as a Fellow of AAAS in 2002.

“With a little bit of effort, we can make a big difference,” Jay Meegoda, PhD, professor of civil and environmental engineering at NJIT told some 100 students who attended the first general meeting today of the NJIT student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (NJIT-EWB). Also providing welcoming remarks were NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson and Daniel Martin, president of the Northern New Jersey Professional EWB Chapter. The proposed initial project for the NJIT-EWB will be to provide a sustainable water supply and sanitation for the city of Milot in Haiti.
