The NJIT Chapter of the Hispanic Organization of Students in Technology/Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (HOST/SHPE) was the big winner at the 2005 SHPE Eastern Technical Career Conference held in October. NJIT was awarded the Orlando Montan Chapter Leadership Award and students Danny Lozano and Hermes Alverez won the Most Promising Engineer award and the Technical Poster Competition, respectively. Raymond A. Calluori, PhD, Office of Institutional Research and Planning, served as a member of the Juvenile Delinquency Advisory Board for McGraw-Hill's recently released reader, Annual Editions: Juvenile Delinquency and Justice 06/07. Articles on school shootings and Ecstasy use by youth, suggested by Dr. Calluori, were included in the collection. >>
Carlos Rivera, an adjunct professor in NJIT's School of Management, will speak at the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey's 15th Annual Convention, Expo and Career Fair on Oct. 14 at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott. Admission is free. >>
The NJIT student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) will host the society's Regional Student Leadership Conference on March 19, 2005, 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. in the Campus Center. Some 250 Hispanic students from 45 colleges will attend the conference, which offers student leaders from SHPE chapters in the northeast a chance to meet and share knowledge. Maria Hernandez, director of Business Resiliency and Security Solutions at IBM Corp., will speak during the conference luncheon. Liz Garcia (at left), public affairs manager for Infineum who is also a member of the NJIT Board of Trustees, will speak during the gala banquet. >>
