Yankee Manager Joe Torre will visit New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to announce a long-term partnership between NJIT’s baseball team, the Highlanders, and the Newark Bears. The Highlanders play their home games at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, in Newark, and Torre will discuss the bright collaborative future of the Highlanders and the Bears.  >>

NJIT faculty, staff and their families watched the Newark Bears play against the Camden Riversharks at the annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night on May 6, 2005 at Riverfront Stadium in Newark. NJIT President Robert A. Altenkirch threw out the first ball and the 2005 employee service award recipients were recognized. >>

The 2004-2005 Technology and Society Speaker Forum Series at NJIT concluded with the University Heights Spring Concert on April 27, 2005 in the Jim Wise Theatre. The concert featured performances by the newly formed NJIT Chorus and the Newark Arts High School Chorus conducted by Jerry Forderhase (at left). >>

Nine high-school teams from Newark, all coached by students and technicians from NJIT, will compete in the New Jersey FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Regional Robotics Competition on March 18 and 19 in the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton. The contest will feature five-foot tall, 100-pound robots lifting and stacking pyramid-shaped blocks of pipe and wood within a two-minute deadline. >>

Middle-school students from Newark will compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League at NJIT on Jan. 15, 2005 at 12 noon. The twenty participating student teams, who have been tutored by NJIT students, have built robots designed to help disabled individuals perform domestic tasks. >>
