New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been asked by Educational Testing Service (ETS) to join its prestigious advisory committee focused on literacy assessment.   The committee was established in 2003 to ensure the test’s initial development.  Now that the test is available, the committee serves in a consultative role. >>

Graduation Day arrives today for 180 academic boot campers who have completed the six-week Educational Opportunity Program at NJIT. The students, all of whom will now be formally admitted into NJIT’s incoming freshman class, spent six weeks living in residence halls and attending classes in math and science. The program, now in its 33rd year, takes high school students from the state’s poorest districts and transforms them into bright college students who will one day work as engineers, scientists and other professionals. >>

NJIT was recently named as one of six new higher education institutions to join the National Advisory Committee for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy Assessment, which is used voluntarily by higher education institutions and high schools that want to assess the ICT skills of its students. >>

When he was 12, Carl Robinson faced a family trauma that was shocking in its brutality. But Robinson never lapsed into despair. He instead managed to use the life-altering events to motivate himself academically and altruistically. On May 18 he will graduate from NJIT with a degree in electrical engineering. >>

Gregory Olsen, an entrepreneur and scientist who in October 2005 became the third private citizen to make a paid trip into space, will meet with students from the Albert Dorman Honors College, the Educational Opportunity Program and faculty from NJIT on April 26. The talk will take place at 3 p.m. in Eberhardt Hall. >>
