A weekend conference drawing East Coast female engineers and students headlines the upcoming month-long events set for Women’s History Month at NJIT. The month kicks off this weekend, March 2-4, as more than 200 female engineering students and professionals from 68 engineering schools descend on the NJIT campus for the Eastern regional conference of the Society of Women Engineers. NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson, PhD, will drive home this year’s theme—Diversity in Engineering—when she speaks at 8 a.m. on March 3. >>

Priscilla P. Nelson, PhD, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at NJIT, was named chair-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Section on Engineering. Dr. Nelson was elected as a Fellow of AAAS in 2002. >>
“With a little bit of effort, we can make a big difference,” Jay Meegoda, PhD, professor of civil and environmental engineering at NJIT told some 100 students who attended the first general meeting today of the NJIT student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (NJIT-EWB). Also providing welcoming remarks were NJIT Provost Priscilla Nelson and Daniel Martin, president of the Northern New Jersey Professional EWB Chapter. The proposed initial project for the NJIT-EWB will be to provide a sustainable water supply and sanitation for the city of Milot in Haiti. >>
