NJIT swept Wagner, 3-0, in women’s volleyball Tuesday night, but it wasn’t easy, as the Highlanders edged the Seahawks, 25-23, 25-21 and 27-25. Baaba Hughes led the NJIT attack with 10 kills, Danielle Thompson had 25 assists and three players—Agnieszka Pregowska, Hughes and Renata Pandolfo—had two service aces apiece. >>

NJIT rising sophomore men's basketball guard Jheryl Wilson was named a Star-Ledger College Summer League All-Star for his play this summer in the top college summer league in New Jersey. The Star-Ledger College Summer League, an NCAA-sanctioned summer league, brings together men's college players from all levels to compete in regular competition in New Brunswick, NJ. >>

NJIT sophomore goalkeeper Sadie Mele earned the first Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, as the league began to recognize student-athletes within the membership. The Highlanders will return to action on Friday, when they host Canisius at 7 p.m. on Lubetkin Field. >>

NJIT senior men's soccer goalkeeper Josh Osit has been named Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Goalkeeper of the Week, the ASC announced today. Osit recorded five saves in the season opener against Siena. >>

NJIT is one of six institutions that have joined the expansion of the Great West Conference to form a Division I all-sports league that will conduct championship competition in several sports in 2008-09 and then begin full conference scheduling and championships in 2009-10. >>

Six NJIT student-athletes were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars in the May 29, 2008 issue of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. NJIT freshman Dom Hayes was selected by the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association to the 2008 all-rookie all-state team as an outfielder. Four Highlanders posted double-figure totals as they went on to a 67-61 road win over Texas-Pan American Wednesday night in women's basketball action. The win for NJIT was its third of the season and first road victory under new head coach Margaret McKeon.   >>
