Chinese Delegates to Visit NJIT to Learn of Sustainability, Solar Energy

A delegation from Ningguo in the People’s Republic of China will visit NJIT Nov. 18, 2010 to learn more about sustainable urban living and solar energy. The delegation would like to transform Ningguo into China’s “Solar City.” The trip follows a visit this past July from an NJIT delegation led by Donald H. Sebastian, PhD, senior vice president for research and development, in which an agreement was signed with city officials to help them achieve their solar goals. Ningguo is located in eastern China in the province of Anhui. The city has a population of 380,000.

NJIT To Offer Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Policy and Environmental Management

NJIT will launch this fall a new 12-credit graduate certificate in sustainability policy and environmental management. The program will require students to complete four courses. Maurie Cohen, PhD, associate professor in the department of chemistry and environmental science, will be the program coordinator. >>

A special issue of The Journal of Industrial Ecology (JIE) co-edited by Maurie Cohen, an associate professor at NJIT, was cited today in a blog by Rob Walker, who writes the "Consumed" column for the Sunday New York Times Magazine. The special issue was published as Volume 14 Issue 1 (January/February 2010). The papers of the online issue are freely downloadable.

The NJIT College of Architecture and Design (COAD) has received the $25,000 grand prize for 2010 from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) for a small modern townhouse. Architecture students developed the design last semester for the Newark Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
