“We gather here today to honor the service of all American veterans. Their contributions can never be overstated or underlooked,” said Charles J. Fey, vice president for Academic Support and Student Affairs, during his opening remarks at NJIT's Veterans Day ceremony. “We owe them a debt of gratitude.”

“I don't like the way Memorial Day is celebrated,” said NJIT graduate student Omar Gomez, who served in the Army for five years and in Afghanistan for 15 months. “It's too serious, too gray. My friend Donald T. Tabb who was killed was a funny guy—I want him to stand tall with his jokes. Nobody died so you could be boring.”
