The
NJIT men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams play their home
matches at Entwisle Gymnasium, the main facility in the Estelle and
"Zoom" Fleisher Athletic Center. Entwisle can seat approximately
1,500 spectators. The back bay, "C gym," area can be sectioned
off from the main floor, making the entire gymnasium area useful for
intramural events, physical education classes, and campus recreation time,
and able to host multiple events simultaneously. The
NJIT baseball and men's and women's soccer teams play and practice at
Lubetkin Field, a lighted, natural-grass campus facility immediately
adjacent to the Fleisher Center. Lubetkin, which is also used for physical
education and intramurals, contains a midfield scoreboard and press box
facilities, with seating to hold approximately 1,000 spectators. Members
of the campus community also have access to all of the other facilities in
the athletic center. These include the fitness area (containing computer
controlled biking equipment, Cybex resistance units, and an indoor track),
weight room, four racquetball courts (which can be converted for squash),
a martial arts/fencing center, and an aerobics/dance studio. A six-lane
swimming pool is home to NJIT's men's and women's swimming teams, while
the two varsity tennis squads host meets and practices at four lighted
outdoor hardcourt tennis courts behind the building. NJIT
also offers several intercollegiate club sports, including bowling,
cricket, golf, judo, men's lacrosse and wrestling, with cross-country and
women's water polo as planned additions for 2002-03. The Hazell Student
Center houses six regulation bowling lanes. Intramural offerings include
badminton, 3 on 3 basketball, billiards, bowling, flag football,
racquetball, indoor and outdoor soccer, softball, tennis, triathlon. |
