DISABILITY SERVICES

Students with disabilities, like all students at NJIT, face a number of challenges in the completion of a degree. The Counseling Center coordinates academic accommodations and provides counseling to support the education of students with documented disabilities.  Accommodations and support services are provided on an individual basis. Determination of reasonable accommodations are based on the documentation of disability and are made in consultation with the individual student, the Coordinator of Student Disability Services and university administrators as needed. Accommodations include services such as: providing general information; coordinating extended testing time, providing sign language interpreters and note takers; and liaison with faculty, staff and outside agencies, etc.  Procedures for obtaining accommodations include:

1) contacting the Counseling Center,
2) meeting with the Coordinator of Student Disability Services,
3) providing appropriate documentation of your disability,
4) completing appropriate forms and
5) following appropriate guidelines and procedures for implementation of the accommodation.

Information about students with disabilities is confidential and will not be shared without the student’s express (usually written) permission except under certain conditions outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act or in accordance with other legal mandates.

Students are encouraged to contact the Coordinator of Student Disability Services at the Counseling Center, 205 Campbell Hall, (973) 596-3420 for more information.
