INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY & MEDIA SERVICES

Our mission is supporting the delivery of instruction at New Jersey Institute of Technology locally and at a distance. To meet this mission, Instructional Technology & Media Services (ITMS) provides access to many advanced technologies for course development and delivery. As such, ITMS provides support in the following areas:

•  Design, installation and delivery of technology to support instruction in the classroom

•  Audio-visual support of on-campus conferences and meetings

•  Production of instructional support materials

•  Digital video production and encoding

•  Duplication and distribution of instructional support materials

•  Videoconferencing

•  Loan of audio-visual equipment

ITMS understands that time and place does not limit today's learning environment. At any time, different spaces can be used to bring teachers and students together to create virtual classroom learning experiences.

As a support facility for the production of instructional materials and programs for the campus community, ITMS is equipped for production in the following formats:

•  Audiotapes

•  Computer generated graphics, animations and video

•  Digital video

•  Computer-based media (CD, DVD production and duplication)

Some services are provided on a cost recovery basis , including costs for equipment, operators and equipment rental for services after normal hours of operation. Student groups needing support for on-campus events should contact ITMS by e-mail at: itms@njit.edu well in advance of the event to ensure that they receive the support needed . Most audio-visual support services in the Campus Center are provided by the Campus Center staff.

To assist students involved in classroom instruction, ITMS provides audio-visual equipment for use on the NJIT campus. From a basic overhead projector to LCD projectors and notebook computers, ITMS provides the support students often need. We also support NJIT students audio-visual equipment needs for class projects. Some loans will require written permission from the sponsoring faculty person .

XGA LCD projectors and notebook computers are available for student sign-out for use in the classroom with permission of an instructor . This equipment may be picked-up from and returned to the ITMS Office (Room 0300 GITC).

In addition, the Architecture Library also maintains LCD projectors and notebooks for classroom support. Equipment may be reserved by linking to their web site at http://www.library.njit.edu/archlib/apps/reservations/index.cfm Persons borrowing equipment, or having equipment delivered to the classroom, are responsible for that equipment while in their possession or for the period of time for which it was requested. Equipment that has been lost, stolen, or damaged must be repaired or replaced. You must immediately report any equipment failure, loss or theft to Instructional Technology & Media Services main office.

We also maintain several rooms on campus, which are specially equipped for large or complex presentations. If you need to make presentations in any of these rooms, please contact us ahead of time. We will assist you with some guidelines for preparing your visual materials for the best possible display. Preparation time can make the difference between an average presentation and a winning one.

ITMS provides digital video production & live two-way transmissions for distance education activities as well as other campus-based needs. Please note that there are nominal charges for these services, which are either paid for by the student, faculty member or sponsoring department.

Video production equipment is not available for loan.

Videotape duplication and standards conversions are also available. Please note: We cannot duplicate copyrighted material without written permission from the copyright holder. THIS IS THE LAW .
