Our mission is supporting the delivery of instruction at New Jersey Institute of Technology locally and at a distance. To meet this mission, Instructional Technology & Media Services (ITMS) provides access to many advanced technologies for course development and delivery.  As such, ITMS provides support in the following areas:

Delivery of A-V equipment (projectors) to classrooms.

Audio-visual support of conferences and meetings.

Production of audio-visual material.

Video Production.

Duplication and distribution of videotape.

Sale of consumable audio-visual materials.

Teleconferencing.

Loan of audio-visual equipment (projectors).

Production of printed materials in support of proposals, reports, papers, and presentations.
ITMS understands that time or place does not limit today’s learning environment. Different spaces, at any time can be used to bring teachers and students together to create virtual classroom learning experiences.

As a support facility for the production of audio-visual materials and programs for the campus community, ITMS is equipped for production in the following formats:

35 mm slides from flat artwork or computer files.

Overhead transparencies.

Audio tapes.

Computer generated video

Videotapes (3/4Ó & VHS).

Computer graphics.

Computer based Ð Multi-Media.

Electronic publishing

Some services are provided on a cost recovery basis, including costs for equipment operators or equipment rental or for services after normal hours of operation.  Student groups needing support for on campus events should contact ITMS well in advance of the event to ensure that they receive the support needed.

To assist students involved in classroom instruction, ITMS provides audio-visual equipment for use on the NJIT campus. From a basic overhead projector to LCD panels, ITMS provides the support one needs. We also support NJIT students with the production of overhead transparencies and audio-visual equipment for loan.

Audio-visual equipment can be obtained from Media Services for use in the classroom, for special projects, or for off-campus presentations.  Routine requests for classroom delivery of equipment must be made no less than 24 hours in advance by calling ext. 3005.  Requests for VHS equipment requires 48 hours.  Monochrome LCD panels and portable PA systems are available for student sign-out with prior arrangements.  Equipment for use in offices or off-campus may be picked-up from and returned to the Media Services Office (Room 0300 GITC).  Persons borrowing equipment, or having equipment delivered to the classroom are responsible for that equipment while in their possession or for the period of time for which it was requested.  Equipment that has been lost, stolen, or damaged must be repaired or replaced.  You should immediately report any equipment failure, loss or theft to Media Services (ext. 3005).

We also maintain several rooms on campus, which are specially equipped for large or complex presentations.  Please contact us at ext. 3005 to discuss your needs.

ITMS provides video production and live two-way transmissions for distance education activities as well as other campus-based needs. ITMS produces or transmits live more than 45 hours of video-based instruction every week, having produced over 100 original video-based telecourses since 1981.

ITMS production facilities are located in the Guttenberg Information Technologies Center (GITC). The unit operates the Interactive Television Room, Candid Classroom, and Lecture Hall. These rooms are equipped with a visualiser and a fully networked PC. If you are in a class that is being relayed to another site, or take DL class via videotape, chances are that your course originated from one of these rooms. If you need to make presentations in any of these rooms, please call us ahead of time. We will assist you with some guidelines for preparing your visual materials for the best possible display. A few moments spent ahead of time can make the difference between a so-so presentation and a winning one!

Services such as videotape duplication, standards conversions (we cannot duplicate copyrighted material without written permission from the copyright holder-this is the law). Videotaping of special events, uplinks and downlinks of satellite transmissions are also provided to the NJIT community. We provide professional technicians who can help with these production activities. Please note that there are nominal charges for these services, which are either paid for by the student, faculty member or sponsoring department. We are sorry but there is no video production equipment available for loan/ sign out.

The ITMS is located at the William S. Guttenberg Information Center, Room 0300 and can be reached at (973) 596-3005 or inquiries can be faxed to (973) 596-6465. Office hours are Monday thru Friday 8:30 am to 9:00 p.m., during Fall and Spring Semesters.
