Family Orientation

Family Orientation: Summer 2017

At the New Jersey Institute of Technology, our philosophy is that the success of students is dependent on a triadic relationship which exists between the University, parents/guardians, and students. Please join us for Family Orientation so you can learn about the student experience at NJIT and learn the best ways you can support your student during their first year of study. Most students who attend New Student Orientation (NSO) bring at least one parent, guardian, or family member. We look forward to meeting you!

Why Attend Family Orientation?

Parent/guardian participation is optional, but strongly encouraged. As a parent/guardian, you will continue to play an important role in your student’s personal development and academic success. Family Orientation is a great way to take part in and support your student’s transition. Our program will highlight transitional issues you will face as well provide detailed information regarding math course placement, tutoring services, counseling and psychological services, work study and internships, comprehensive university health insurance, and more.

Family Orientation and New Student Orientation Dates

Family Orientation runs concurrently with New Student Orientation. The parent program is separate from NSO for much of the day. Students will have received their course placements and should have registered prior to attending NSO. Students are invited to attend NSO based on the college their major is in. For example, students majoring in computer science are only invited on the days that the College of Computing Sciences is represented.
