Consortium Programs

The Consortium for Pre-College Education in Greater Newark is a collaboration between NJIT, the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE), and Newark Public Schools. Funded by OSHE, the Consortium provides educational programs and activities for over 500 college-bound students in 6th through 12th grades. Participants are predominantly low-income, black and/or Latino, and the first person in their family to aspire to attend college. Consortium programs focus on pre-college preparation and are designed to aid students and their parent(s)/guardian every step of the way—from initial program enrollment to college admission and beyond. Academic instruction is offered in mathematics (pre-algebra through calculus), science (general through chemistry), English, computer literacy, and technology (general through pre-engineering). These academic classes are complemented with instruction on effective goal-setting, study skills, time management, and mentoring activities. Since the Consortium's inception, over 1,000 program participants have graduated from high school and pursued postsecondary education. All programs are free of charge to qualified applicants.
