




College Courses for High School Students
The Academy College Courses at NJIT are designed for academically talented high school students eager to get a jump start on their college careers by earning college credit while still in high school. Participants earn college credits in small, customized classes taught by NJIT faculty who have been recognized for their commitment to teaching excellence.
Academy College Courses students have the option of living on the NJIT campus during the week (at an additional charge) or commuting to the university (SUMMER ONLY). As a campus resident, you will live in one of NJIT’s modern, air-conditioned dormitories, arriving Monday and leaving on Thursday. Specially trained counselors will help make your stay comfortable.

Business
Mgmt 190 – Industrial Organization and Management (3 credits) :
Introduction to business enterprise, including organization structure, basis of authority and responsibility, financial systems, marketing, the interaction of government and business, and the interrelationships of the broad economic, political, psychological and social influences upon business. This is an entry level management course and part of the freshman year curriculum at NJIT.
Information Technology
Introduction to Information Technology --IT 101 (3 credits) :
Overview of emerging information technologies and the principles behind those developments. Discusses applications developed around evolving Internet infrastructure and their impact on business and information technology professionals and society. Covers such topics as multimedia systems and standards, e-commerce applications, distributed design and manufacturing, geographical information systems, all in the context of problem solving and program development, which is integrated throughout the course by using Java language as a vehicle to illustrate the concepts. Offered summer semester ONLY
Engineering
Fundamentals of Engineering Design--FED 101 (2 credits) :
Teams of students work on open-ended engineering projects. Sections are offered to represent an introduction to real-world engineering design problems in a specific engineering discipline. Topics covered include introduction to basic engineering design elements, processes, measurements, product and project design and development, with hands-on experiments in a specific major area. Students also learn to use engineering tools for computer-aided design and simulation. Technical writing and oral presentation along with project management skills are emphasized.
English Composition
English Composition: Writing, Speaking, Thinking --HUM 101 (3 credits) :
Provides instruction in written and oral communication in the context of the first-year college curricula. Emphasizes critical thinking as essential in producing effective expository writing, with readings and writing assignments drawn from the humanities, engineering, and social and natural science. Course satisfies the English GUR.
Mathematics
Math 102 Modern Pre-calculus (6 credits) :
This course is as incentive non-traditional approach to pre-calculus employing curriculum innovations for the preparation of students for college calculus. The course infuses calculus techniques into the pre-calculus techniques into the pre-calculus curriculum. The format includes both regular class and workshop environments with a focus on students problem solving. Course consists of a series of projects, many of which introduces and use elementary differentiation and/or integration in which the students perform sustained algebraic and trigonometric computations. The projects involve the following topics: polynomials, rational expressions, expressions involving radicals, exponential and logarithmic functions, right triangle trigonometry, and the solution of linear and quadratic equations.
Math 111 Calculus I (4 credits) :
Considers the theory and techniques of differentiation and integration with applications of both processes to engineering and science.
General Chemistry I --Chem 125 (3 credits) :
This course is an intensive introduction to the basic concepts of chemistry, including chemical reactions and bonding, electronic and molecular structure, gases and thermo-chemistry. Offered Summer semester only.
* Pre-requisites :
Physics I and Physics Lab--Phys 111/111A (4 credits) :
This course deals with the study of elementary mechanics. Emphasis is on the fundamental concepts and laws of mechanics, especially conservation laws. Topics discussed are: motion; equilibrium and Newton’s laws of motion; work,energy and momentum; and conservation laws. Lab must be taken concurrently.

If you and your family cannot meet the cost of the academy, we suggest that you talk with your high school personnel or representatives of community or local business organizations about financial assistance. NJIT may award a limited number of partial scholarships.
