The Next Cycle of Strategic Planning at NJIT
Dear Members of the NJIT Community,
I am writing to announce the first stage of our next planning cycle, NJIT’s strategic plan for beyond 2020.
Since January, Provost Fadi Deek and I have been meeting to review 2020 Vision milestones and to conceptualize future planning. At the June 2018, Board of Trustees retreat, we reviewed the planning process and offered guidance for future priorities and objectives. Provost Deek has also been working with shared governance leaders to draft the NJIT Planning and Accreditation Roadmap. The planning process we describe there is collaborative. We not only encourage community participation, we depend on it.
To kick off planning for this cycle, Provost Deek will soon distribute the Roadmap to the community. I encourage you to read it and consider this initial guidance as a starting point for the discussion we are about to begin.
In the next few weeks, you will be invited to offer your initial input for planning through a detailed Community Input Survey. I ask that you consider the questions carefully. Your responses will play an important role in drafting the plan.
During this year, Provost Deek and I will also hold town hall meetings to discuss our progress and invite a dialogue. I encourage you to attend, and we look forward to lively, thought-provoking discussions.
The Provost and I, based on nominations by shared governance bodies, will appoint the Planning Committee including faculty, administration, students, alumni, and advisory board members this semester. The Planning Committee will use community input to develop priorities, objectives, and strategies to draft the plan by fall 2019.
In the exciting and challenging times ahead, we will work collaboratively to chart a direction that leads to excellence and accountability for our community. Our system of shared governance will serve us well in the process of collaborative planning.
Again, when you receive the survey, I encourage you to participate. I also look forward to seeing you at upcoming town halls meetings.
