Provost Committee Announces On-Campus Interviews

The Provost Search Committee has completed the first major phase of the candidate selection process. During the past three Tuesdays (October 13, 20 and 27) the committee conducted airport interviews of 11 candidates (selected from a list of 64 applications received). After deliberations, the committee has invited six finalists for on-campus interviews. Unfortunately, one of them withdrew on Tuesday, 11/27 to accept a position at the presidential level.

The committee is pleased to announce the names of the five remaining candidates reflected below, including their recent positions and affiliations. The interview dates were selected to take full advantage of the common hours on Mondays or Wednesdays, during which times the candidates will address NJIT faculty, staff and students. UPDATE: It was determined that Room 112 Eberhardt Hall will not be large enough to handle the expected audience for the candidate presentation scheduled for Wednesday at 2:30 pm. Therefore, there is a change in the room for this and other candidate presentations to follow during the next 3 weeks.  The locations are noted below:

Everyone is invited to the open forum sessions to hear the candidates discuss their research and vision for NJIT.

  • November 03 - 04. Location: Ballroom A -- Dr. Karim Mohammad, Vice President for Research, Old Dominion University and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2004 - present); was former Dean of Engineering, City College of New York of CUNY (2002 - 2004).
  • November 08 - 09. Location: GITC 3720, 3730, 3740 -- Dr. Roger McNeil, Founding Dean, College of Natural Sciences, California State University, Stanislaus (2007 - present), and Professor of Physics; was former Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge (2003 -2007).
  • November 11. Location: Ballroom A -- Dr. Donald Sebastian, NJIT Provost (Interim) since December 2008, and NJIT Senior Vice President for Research and Development (since 2004); was former VP for R&D (2001 - 2004) and Associate Provost for R&D (1999 - 2004), Professor of Chemistry, NJIT.
  • November 15 - 16. Location: GITC 3720, 3730, 3740 -- Dr. Allan Myerson, Phillip Danforth Armour Professor of Engineering, Dept. of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Illinois Institute of Technology; was Provost and Senior VP of Illinois Institute of Technology (2003- 2009); former Dean of Armour College of Engineering, IIT (2000 - 2003).
  • November 17 - 18. Location: Ballroom A -- Ian Gatley, Director of the Center for Student Innovation and Undergraduate Research Support, Rochester Institute of Technology (2009 - present), and Professor of Physics; was former Dean of the College of Science , RIT (2002- 2009) and former Director of the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, RIT (1997 - 2002).

Hard copies of the detailed CVs can be reviewed in any of the Deans- offices, at the NJIT Library (reference desk) and at NJIT's President-s Office. You may also ask any of the search committee members to review copies.

Each candidate will arrive for a campus tour the day before (on Tuesday or Sunday afternoon) to be followed by a full day interview (on Wednesday or Monday). The detailed interview schedule will be posted on the Bulletin Board and the Provost Search corner on the NJIT website. The committee is looking forward to your participation and feedback on the candidates.
