Lisa Axe, PhD

Lisa Axe, PhD	Lisa Axe, PhD, is a professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Her research interests include: physical and chemical processes in environmental systems, which includes water quality, subsurface contamination, mechanistic and transport modeling; ecological risk assessment modeling; corrosion characterization and modeling; developing and evaluating alternative processes such as replacement coatings for corrosion protection; and using in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy for assessing speciation, which has recently been applied on treated dredged and contaminated sediments for reuse in the construction industry. Recent publications include: Xu, Y., and L. Axe, 2004, "Synthesis and Characterization of Iron Oxide-Coated Silica and Its Effect on Metal Adsorption," Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, in press; and Boonfueng, T., Axe, L., and Y. Xu, 2004, "Properties and structure of manganese oxide-coated clay," Journal of Colloid and Interface Science. She received her PhD in environmental engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology; an MChE from Illinois Institute of Technology; an MS in environmental engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology; and a BS in geoscience and geochemistry option from Purdue University.
