John D. Carpinelli, PhD


John D. Carpinelli, PhD

John D. Carpinelli, PhD, is associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and the director of the Center for Pre-College Programs at New Jersey Institute of Technology. His research interests include engineering education research, interconnection networks, and multiprocessor systems. He primarily teaches courses in computer architecture and freshman engineering.

He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the International Network for Engineering Education and Research.

In 2004, Carpinelli was named a Master Teacher, joining a select number of tenured faculty who have demonstrated the highest level of teaching excellence over a sustained period of time at NJIT.    

Carpinelli is the author of the textbook Computer Systems Organization and Architecture, which is used at over 200 universities in the United States and over two dozen other countries.

He received his B. Engr. from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1983 and the M. Engr. and PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1984 and 1987, respectively.
