William C. Hunter is professor and chair of the department of biomedical engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology. His research interests include cardiac function and biomedical applications for microelectromechanical devices (MEMS).

Hunter's expertise is in using engineering tools to study the mechanics of the beating of the human heart. He is internationally known for his research on heart contractions -- both the proteins that generate force, to an understanding of the heart pumping blood into the aorta. For more than 18 years he led a research project, "Understanding Cardiac Contraction -- From Muscle to Ventricle," funded by the National Institutes of Health.

He received his PhD in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his BS in electrical engineering from Lehigh University.
