Alexander Thomasian, PhD

Alexander Thomasian, PhD

Alexander Thomasian, PhD, is a professor of computer science at New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he heads a study sponsored by the National Science Foundation focusing on the performance of mirrored RAID disks. Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) is a technology designed to prevent loss of data and improve access time in large computer systems. RAID 5 uses a group of disks that allows data on a failed disk to be accessed. The system automatically recreates the contents of a failed disk on a back-up disk.

Recent publications include: A. Thomasian. Database Concurrency Control: Methods, Performance, and Analysis, Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1996; A. Thomasian. "Performance Analysis of Database Systems,'' in Performance Evaluation White Book editors. G. Haring, C. Lindemann, and M. Reiser. Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series, Springer-Verlag, 2000, pp. 311-331; and A. Thomasian. "Performance analysis of concurrency control methods,'' in Performance Evaluation White Book editors. G. Haring, C. Lindemann, and M. Reiser. Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series, Springer-Verlag, 2000, pp. 333-357.

He received his PhD in 1977 from the University of California, Los Angeles.
