Reginald Tomkins, PhD


Reginald PT Tomkins, PhD

Reginald PT Tomkins, PhD, is a professor and interim chairperson in the department of chemical engineering at NJIT. His research interests include corrosion engineering; electrochemical methods for analysis; and solubility of gases in molten salts.

In 2007, Tomkins received the Robert Swanson Award for his continuing support of the athletic program in his 30 years on the NJIT faculty. Named for the late NJIT professor and athletic director, the Robert Swanson Award is presented to the faculty or staff member who has shown continued support for the Highlander Athletic Program.

Other awards and honors include: NJIT Foundation Overseers Public and Institute Service Award (1987); New Jersey Department of Higher Education: Faculty Recognition Award (1989); North Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society: Harvey Russel Award for Contributions to Chemical Education (1999); New Jersey Institute of Chemists: Honor Scroll Award (1999); and the Newark College of Engineering Excellence in Advising Award (1999).

Tomkins received his PhD in 1966 and his BS in chemistry and physics in 1963, both from the University of London (UK).
