Mengchu Zhou, PhD

Mengchu Zhou, PhD, is a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Laboratory for Discrete Event Systems at New Jersey Institute of Technology. His research interests focus on computer-integrated systems, bio-signals and sensor networks, homeland security, Petri nets, discrete event systems, embedded control software engineering, network protocol analysis, intelligent automation, multi-lifecycle engineering, de-manufacturing and recycling.

Zhou, a prolific researcher, has published several books and more than 150 technical articles.  Recent publications include: Zhou, M. C. and K.Venkatesh, Modeling, Simulation and Control of Flexible Manufacturing Systems: A Petri Net Approach,  World Scientific, 1999; and Zhou, M. C. (Ed.), Petri Nets in Flexible and Agile Automation, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Boston, MA, 1995.

In 2001, Zhou received a Humboldt Research Award. The Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation annually grants up to 150 of these awards to outstanding scholars residing outside of Germany. That same year Zhou was also honored by the New Jersey-based Asian American Heritage Council for his work in public service and government.

Zhou received his PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; his master's degree from Beijing Institute of Technology and his bachelor's degree from Nanjing University of Science and Technology.
