| NJIT and Marine Reserve Host Counter-Terrorism Symposium: Nov. 11, 2006

The New Jersey chapter of the Marine Corps Reserve Association and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will sponsor the Counter-Terrorism Symposium Nov. 11, 2006, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at NJIT.
The keynote speaker for this one-day terrorism preparedness symposium is retired Maj. Gen. George T. Garret, assistant to the director, NJ Office of Homeland Defense.

People providing briefings will include the NJ State Police (School Security Unit); bird flu expert Judith Lightfoot; Norman Van Houten, PhD of NJIT speaking about chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats; Business Executives for National Security; the NJ Army Guard Civil Support Team and the NJ State Police Bomb Squad. The U.S. Coast Guard, the Community Emergency Response Team/Corporate Watch/Citizen Corps and computer forensic/cyber security experts will also speak.
The symposium will discuss counter-terrorist prevention strategies that are in place and being developed, plus scenarios as they apply to threats and regional concerns such as school security, hospital pandemic flu preparation and information technology security. Experts will also improvise explosive devices and discuss travel threats for trains, ships and trucks.
