| NJIT Math Professor Bruce Bukiet Receives Teaching Award |

NEWARK, Sept. 13, 2006
Bruce Bukiet, PhD, associate professor and associate dean in the department of mathematical sciences at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), received at NJIT’s annual awards convocation today the excellence in teaching award for outstanding work.
Bukiet’s research concerns the mathematical modeling of physical phenomena. Current interests include biomedical applications of mathematics, including stresses in the heart and modeling the dynamics of flow in the human lung. Bukiet also works in the application of mathematical modeling for sports and gambling, in particular for understanding baseball.
Recent publications include "Mechanical Properties of Diseased Hearts in Adaptation," Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology, Vol. 2, No. 2 (Apr. 2002).
Bukiet, a resident of West Orange, received his doctorate in mathematics from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.
