Grading Instructions

The NJIT Office of the Registrar strives to leverage technology to improve your experience as a member of our faculty.  We are pleased to announce that we are rolling out a new final grade entry option using the new roster with student pictures made available earlier this spring.  This new grade entry option also offers faculty the ability to import/export grades.

Undergraduate Grading Legend

Grades Significance
A Superior
B+ Excellent
B Very Good
C+ Good
C Acceptable
D Minimum 
F Inadequate
AUD Audit
I Grade deferred--given in rare instances to students who would normally have completed the course work but who could not do so because of special circumstances. If this grade is not removed during the next regular semester, a grade of F will result.
W Withdrawn
S Satisfactory
U Unsatisfactory

In all departments in the College of Science and Liberal Arts, a grade of C or higher is required in any lower division course (200 level and below) that serves as a prerequisite for another course.

B+ 3.5 Good
B 3.0 Acceptable
C+ 2.5 Marginal Performance
C 2.0 Minimum Performance
F 0.0 Failure
I   Incomplete
W   Approved Withdrawal
AUD   Audited (no academic credit)
S or U   Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory
P   Pass - Final Grade for Completed Master's Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation

Unlike undergraduate courses, there is no D grade for graduate courses. Assigned grades must be consistent with the level of the course and not the matriculation level of the student in the course.
