The Office of Strategic Communications (StratComm) raises visibility, builds brand awareness, advances strategic priorities, and supports and contributes to the success of 2020 Vision: A Strategic Plan for NJIT through the integration of the department’s main marketing responsibilities, including media relations, web, online and print advertising, social media, graphics, publications and special event promotion.

Editorial Intent

NJIT is one of the nation’s leading public polytechnic research universities, where students are prepared to be leaders in the technology-dependent economy of the 21st century.

With over 11,000 students, 211 U.S. patents in 2015, a $1.74 billion annual economic impact on the State of New Jersey and $110 million in total research expenditures, NJIT’s multidisciplinary curriculum and computing-intensive approach to education provide the technological proficiency, business know-how and leadership skills that future CEOs and entrepreneurs will need to succeed.

StratComm’s editorial team aims to write, edit, develop, publish and promote compelling, multipurpose content that highlights what differentiates NJIT from other colleges and universities. Engaging, clear and consistent messaging strengthens the NJIT brand and presents the university’s core values to prospective students and their parents, alumni, donors, the media and other interested audiences.

Through innovative research and extraordinary student, faculty and alumni experiences and achievements, StratComm will feature stories, involvements and partnerships that raise NJIT’s overall visibility as a premier research university; renowned for excellence in education, eminence in research, generosity in service and dedication to economic progress.

StratComm’s editorial calendar is a tool for organizing and planning publishing efforts, which will reinforce marketing goals and key messages, facilitate collaboration, and enable efficient, effective publishing. Based on NJIT’s strategic plan, the StratComm editorial, digital and public relations team will assess the newsworthiness of selected university activities and events to determine appropriate coverage, media targets and placement.
