Seventh International Summer Research Symposium
On Thursday July 31, 2014 New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host its Seventh Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The event chaired by Dr. Angelo J. Perna and Co-chaired by Ms. Zara Williams of the NJIT McNair Program and provides a venue for undergraduate students to present their summer research projects in poster format which was undertaken under the supervision and advisement of NJIT faculty.
Eighty seven students from U.S. colleges and universities as well as two from Columbia, South America and 15 from India will participate in the program. The opening session begin at 9:20 AM with a welcome and introductions by Dr. Angelo J. Perna followed by opening remarks by Dr. Joel S. Bloom, President NJIT. The symposium begins at 9:45 AM and concludes at 11:45 AM with closing remarks by Dr. Fadi Deek, Provost.
The event is open to the public with parking available in the NJIT parking deck.

EarthCube at NJIT: A Solar-Terrestrial User-End Workshop
This workshop will bring together experts in observation, theory, data analysis, data-driven 3D modeling, data management and high performance computing in order to identify the current challenges and cyberinfrastructure needs related to the access, sharing, visualization and synthesis of the existing and future large, multi-wavelength datasets covering solar-terrestrial observations and modeling all the way from the surface of the Sun to the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
The workshop will introduce the solar-terrestrial community to the general vision behind the EarthCube framework while providing consensus feedback from this community to the EarthCube initiative.

FYC 2.0: An Interactive Orientation
All first-year students are invited back to NJIT for FYC 2.0, part two of First Year Connections. This part of the program will give students a chance to settle in before classes start on Tuesday, September 2.
FYC 2.0 will include move-in, a number of social events, educational overviews, and other helpful sessions to help transition freshmen to college life at NJIT.

NJIT's University Convocation is an annual celebration and awards ceremony that marks the start of the academic year recognizing the accomplishments of students, faculty and staff members. In recent years the ceremony has taken place in the Jim Wise Theater, Lubetkin Field, and the Naimoli Family Athletic Center. A reception for the honorees is held shortly afterwards.
