Director

Deane Evans is a Research Professor and serves as Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research at NJIT.

Mr. Evans has over 20 years experience - in both the private and public sectors - in architectural design, construction technology and building performance. For twelve years Mr. Evans was in private practice with Steven Winter Associates, Inc., an architecture/engineering firm in New York City, where he rose to the position of Senior Principal. In January 1990, Mr. Evans became the first, full-time Director of the AIA/ACSA Council on Architectural Research, an organization jointly sponsored by the American Institute of Architects and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. The Council's main purpose was to foster research which benefited both the architectural curriculum and activities within the profession, and which positively impacted the built environment and the public at large.

In January 1995, Mr. Evans accepted appointment as the first Vice President for Research at the American Institute of Architects. In addition, he assumed management responsibility for the AIA's "Allied Member" and "Continuing Education Products" programs.

In January 1998, Mr. Evans accepted appointment as the founding Director of the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH). PATH is a new public/private partnership to accelerate the creation and use of advanced technologies as a means to improve the quality, durability, energy efficiency, environmental performance and affordability of U.S. housing. In January 1999, at the conclusion of his one year contract as PATH Director, Mr. Evans left the Federal government and returned to private practice, where he developed educational tools for architects and their clients, including: the Affordable Housing Design Advisor and the High Performance School Buildings Resource and Strategy Guide.

On October 1, 2001, Mr. Evans accepted appointment as Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research at NJIT, where he also serves as Director of the Educational Facilities and Housing/Community Development programs.

Mr. Evans is a registered architect, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council. He has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.Arch. from Columbia.
