NJIT Center Developing Engineered Particulates
NEWARK, Jan. 24--Creation of advanced particulate materials is a major research focus of the New
Jersey Center for Engineered Particulates (NJCEP), directed by Rajesh Davé, professor of mechanical
engineering. The center's research team develops particulate materials designed to have properties with
potential applications for industries including pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, ceramics, electronics
and specialty chemicals. Supported by an R&D excellence grant from the New Jersey Commission on Science
and Technology, the center expanded its research capabilities recently with a National Science Foundation
grant, funds the center will use to acquire a field emission scanning electron microscope with a resolution
as low as 2.5 nanometers. The center will also add a transmission electron microscope with a resolution as
low as a few angstroms. The new equipment greatly enhances the center's capabilities in characterizing
particles at the nano and submicron level.
NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling
more than 8,800 students. The university offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to students
