New Jersey Institute of Technology Applauds Outstanding Young Female Scholars

NEWARK, May 24- The Murray Center for Women in Technology at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) recently honored more than 40 female high school students from New Jersey as promising young scientists. The youngsters had been nominated by their high school mathematics, science and technology teachers.

Winners received their awards during a banquet held at NJIT earlier this spring. The agenda included speeches and presentations by NJIT female professors and students. Parents and high school teachers numbered among the invited guests.

Schools were permitted to select up to two women students based on either the schools' criteria or the following guidelines.

• Demonstrated interest in mathematics, science or technology
• Good classroom performance in these subjects
• Science, mathematics or computer club membership
• Participation in science fairs and competitions
• Innovative class projects
• Previous achievement awards
