NEWARK, July 9- The School of Architecture (SOA) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) recently honored students at the annual awards ceremony for outstanding contributions to the school as well as outstanding examples of student efforts.

SOA is one of the largest degree accredited architecture schools in the United States granting both bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture. It's also the only architecture school in New Jersey offering the bachelor's degree in architecture and it's a national leader in the integration into the studio curriculum of computer-aided design (CAD).

Architecture students must take a full year of CAD studio courses. The result is computer-savvy students whom area architectural firms frequently hire. In addition, the school has received 18 of a possible 27 awards since 1996 in the annual international CADDIES Competition for Excellence in Design Visualization. The San Francisco-based Cadalyst magazine sponsors the awards.

The following individuals received awards.

Ryan Day, Atco, was honored for academics, leadership and design skills. Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Livingston, sponsored his award.

In-Ki Hong, Maywood, received an award for excellence in (CAD). Rothe Johnson, Edison, sponsored the honor.

Gregory Goossen, Haledon, received an award for creativity, leadership skills and an entrepreneurial sprit. The York Hunter Group, New York City, sponsored the award.

Stacy Waldburger, Coventry, CT, received the 2002 Female Architecture Student Award from the Murray C enter for Women in Technology at NJIT. The Murray Center is a clearinghouse for research about women and technology and encourages the continued integration of gender into the curriculum. The Center works with other university departments to attract more women students and faculty to NJIT.

Daniel Zaneto, Metuchen, and Yuan Diao, Haskell, received an award for their interest in the use of masonry construction. Masonry Contractors, Bordentown, sponsored the award.

Alexandra Shull, Blairstown, was honored as the top SOA student. The Hillier Group, Princeton, sponsored the award.

Julia Devita, Little Silver, was honored for her success as a non-traditional student who returned to school to establish a second career in architecture. The Littman Family Endowed Scholarship, Highland Park, sponsored the award.

Levy Harris, Highland Park, received an award for being an outstanding student in academic achievement and design. Ronald H. Schmidt and Associates, Eaglewood, sponsored the award.

Wai Lung Choi, Edison, received an award for overall achievements in academic, design, history, theory, technology and courses in arts and science. The New Jersey Society of Architects, Trenton, sponsored the award.

Kenneth M. Lake, Newton, and Nathan St. Germain, Newark, received an award for their interest in interior design. Allstate Office Interiors, Princeton, was the sponsor.

NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling more than 8,800 students.
