This year's project was to design an e-station for the student's hometown. This would be a new building type that combined the function of a sheltered bus station and stop with facilities and equipment that would provide mass transit users with ready access to the Internet. "Since this project is not an established building type, the designer is challenged to conceive a whole new spatial concept and public image for the e-station," says SOA Dean Urs Gauchat. The first place winner was Ramsey High School sophomore Cezar Nicolson, of Ramsey, who receives five years of free full tuition at SOA, should he choose to eventually attend NJIT. The second place award went to Ryan Lemmo, Princeton, a student at Princeton High School, who received five years half tuition. Yunior Ramos, Paterson, a senior at Passaic County Technical High School, received the third place award of $250. Roger Quesada, North Bergen, a senior at Hudson County School of Technology, received a fourth place award of $250. Michael J. Marvin Jr., Flanders, a senior at Mount Olive High School, received a fifth place award of $250. Jose A. Suarez, Haledon, a senior at Passaic County Technical High School received a sixth place award of $250. SOA is one of the largest degree accredited architecture schools in the U.S. granting both bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture, the only architecture school in New Jersey offering the bachelor's degree in architecture, and a national leader in the integration into the studio curriculum of computer-aided design (CAD). Eligibility for the competition requires admission to SOA before scholarship prizes can be awarded. U.S. citizens and permanent residents currently attending high school may enter. Students must also have a teacher from their high school sponsor their project. An affidavit stating that the work is unassisted is also required. NJIT is a public, scientific and technological research university enrolling
more than 8,800 students. The university offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees to students
in 80 degree programs throughout its six colleges: Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey School
of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, School of Management, Albert Dorman Honors
College and College of Computing Sciences. The division of continuing professional education offers
adults eLearning, off campus degrees and short courses. Expertise and research initiatives include
architecture and building science, applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, environmental
engineering and science, information technology, manufacturing, materials, microelectronics,
multimedia, telecommunications, transportation and solar astrophysics. Yahoo! Internet
Life magazine cites NJIT as a "perennially most wired" university.
