NJIT Student Wins Jazz Design Contest
NEWARK - March 11, 1999 -
New Jersey Institute of Technology architecture student Adejoke Tugbiyele designed a winning logo for a Newark-based Jazz radio station, earning a $1,000 scholarship.
Tugbiyele, a sophomore from Rosedale, NY, placed first in the College Division of WGBO's Jazz Design Contest, which marked the 20th anniversary of the radio station. The contest was sponsored by Panasonic and WBGO/Jazz 88.3 FM.
Judging the competition were Ward Mintz, Deputy Director of the Newark Museum; Gwen Moten, Supervisor of Cultural Affairs for the City of Newark; Victor Davson, founder of Aljira Art Gallery/Newark; William Rooney, assistant general manager for Panasonic; Michael Bourne, on-air host and art critic of WGBO; Cephas Bowles, WGBO general manager; Maria Pop, WBGO membership manager and Amy Reed, WBGO marketing manager.
Tugbiyele's logo was unveiled at the corporate headquarters of Panasonic in Secaucus, New Jersey on February 23rd, 1999, and will again be on display at a second reception in April at WBGO.
NJIT is a public research university enrolling nearly 8,200 bachelor's, master's and doctoral students in 76 degree programs through its five colleges: Newark College of Engineering, School of Architecture, College of Science and Liberal Arts, the School of Management and the Albert Dorman Honors College. Research initiatives include manufacturing, microelectronics, multimedia, transportation, computer science, solar astrophysics, environmental engineering and science, and architecture and building science.
